  • Prevajanje zgodovinskih in sodobnih pravnih besedil

    The paper focuses on translations of expert, particularly official, legal texts into Slovenian, whereby most findings also apply mutatis mutandis to other expert texts where, in comparison with a ... literary text, the translator essentially has less creative freedom. With examples from his own experience, the author describes some problems or difficulties a translator often encounters. Based on the above, the author tries to present solutions and give some advice. Excellent knowledge of languages is simply a precondition for a good translation, which should be performed by an expert. A solid base of general legal knowledge is often not enough. As a rule, only an expert in a specific legal area can create quality work. In the opposite case, a danger arises that a translation, although perhaps linguistically excellent, is inaccurate, misleading and thus has detrimental consequences. The paper does not provide final answers to the discussed translation dilemmas since the author is aware that some conclusions may be subject to discussion. The primary aim of the paper is to highlight the problems and trigger a productive debate on the proposed solutions so as to bring about an alignment of views.
